Blue Ridge Sunset
Sunset on the Blue Ridge Parkway south of Asheville, NC. The blue "smoke" that gives the Smokey Mtns their name is the result of water vapor and other organic compounds diffracting sunlight into its blue component. The Cherokee considered the area sacred and named it "Shaconage": land of the blue smoke.
